NH FireFighter - 01 June 2010 04:17 PM

Word has officially been passed!  EA scheduled for June 28, 19:30 hours.  Last official act of The Washington Lodge #61 at Manchester, NH before it goes dark for the summer…I actually feel lucky to slide it in!  I can’t wait!

Congrats, buddy!

The EA is the first experience in a tyled lodge, and it is unforgettable. I hope you are able to participate in masonic activities over the summer. Many NH lodges have a “square and compasses club”, which has barbecues, and family-oriented activities in the summer. I suggest you ask around.

Tonight at 7:30 is the long awaited EA for me.  I am excited and anxious.  This is the last event of the summer for the Washington Lodge #61 at Manchester, NH before it goes dark for July and August!  The forecast is triple H and I am sure that will add a measure of heat to the Lodge.  I will check back tomorrow!  Any parting words of advice before I set forth on my journey would be welcomed!  JC

All I can say is ‘Enjoy’! It’s quite an experience, and one you’ll remember for a lifetime.

I became an EA on Saturday morning, along with another Brother at my lodge; I believe our Special EA Degree was the last official act for our lodge before going dark for the next two months as well.

My only comments would be to make certain you’ve got some arrangement made with a mentor at the lodge so that you can start learning what you need to know in order to progress, and to avail yourself of possible of activities at nearby lodges that remain open during the period your lodge goes dark. I’ll be meeting with the SW of my lodge tonight to start my instruction, and am considering attending an EA that’s slated for this week at the neighboring lodge where I’ve already met several Brothers. Attending an EA Degree and observing will likely bring out subtleties you may have not fully noticed or appreciated during your own degree; like any complex story, you tend to get something additional from it each time you hear it.

I would love to progress and attend other EA degree ceremonies, but as I understand it, I would need to go with a MM who could vouch for me.

I’ll ask tonight if I need another introduction in order to be properly vouched for – but I have the advantage of having already met officers in the lodge where I’m considering observing the EA; I suspect they will remember me from Saturday.

If it is required that you attend with an MM in order to be properly vouched for to observe an EA at an unfamiliar lodge, then I would make it a point to mention this to your mentor or one of the lodge officers tonight – either before or after your EA Degree. Like many things in Masonry, it’s likely all you need do is ask, and you’ll find someone more than happy to assist you in your quest 

Wow!  What a great experience.  I understand completely why many Lodges go dark during the summer months!  It was 94 and humid today…that said, it was absolutely oppressive in the Lodge tonight.  I am excited to progress!  Thanks to all that helped me make it to this point.  JC
