That’s what my sister asked me yesterday. Of course I told her, “God or geography”. She told me no…it stands for Gnosis. That was one I’d never heard. I asked her where she got that from and she told me from a History Channel program that was, according to her, showing the Masons in a positive light. I knew the word Gnosis and that it was the basis for the word Gnostic, but I had to look it up on Wikipedia for more information. Interesting stuff….but not what the “G” stands for. That History Channel really puts out some mis-leading information.

Has anyone else heard this one before?

Will,
I would remind her that not everything on the big glowing box of knowledge is true. Maybe recomend a book or 2 for her to read for the real history and insight on Freemasonry. (i.e. A Pilgrim’s Path, Idiot’s Guide to Freemasonry, etc.)
Best of luck.

Geometry, Grand architect of the universe IE goat.  God you will learn that many of the symbols are what you make them.  But there is a degree were you are given a lecture on the Letter “G”

Just curious but did you inadvertently allow a spell checker to change your GAOTU into goat?

I like his goat better. Both are warm and fuzzy and can be worn. The goat skin as a small cloak on the outside. And illumination on the inside.

That’s it! Eureka! The G stands for Goat thatnk you so much Jason for the insight.

But seriously it just shows how you can take anything even a word like Goat and make it stand for something or read into it something that it really has no connection to.

But I still think it is incumbant upon people to clear up such misrepresentations when they see them and not allow them to grow into a monstrosity such as the Freemason conspiracy. Perhaps even go so far as to take legal action against those who would slander the name and reputation of a wholesome , god (goat-lol) fearing, patriotic, law abiding institution.

You will have all kinds of organizations on your @$$ if you did that. A lot of these conspiracy theorists are religious fanatics patriot extremists and believe in free speech (when it suits THEM, everyone else just needs to shut the F*** up)and will throw a hissy fit.

goat? LOL!!!

While i don’t always agree with a no responce posture it has kept lots of people and the Fraternity out of trouble. To a point. I hear in england now you have to declare your a mason when involved in politics. A silly law, but Since we’re not out to take over the world, oh wait did i say that out loud?, it doesn’t really hurt anyone.

There must be a lot of sense in that considering the amount of slander done by tabloids and others of celebrities and politicians that goes unchallenged.

Be a man of an age of 21 or 18 in some jurisdictions , have a belief in a supreme being , be of high moral character and you need to ask a Freemason for a petition for the degrees . If you do not know a Freemason , let us know where you are from and we will point you in the right direction . What will happen is , you ask a Freemason for a petition , he will give you one , you will then fill it out and return it to the Mason who had given it to you along with the petition fee (if applicable ) , the petition will be read in lodge , an investigation committee of 3 Master Masons will assigned to come and talk with you and answer any questions you may have and they may or may not do a background check and may or may not contact your references , the investigation committee will report back to lodge on their findings (if they were favorable or unfavorable) and the lodge will then ballot on you .
