Hey NZ-Freemason, when I was in Wanaka a couple years ago I walked past a Masonic lodge that had the masonic symbol upside down. The square was on top and the compasses were below.
Do you know of any reason for this?
Hi Dan,
I know the lodge you are speaking of, Lodge Wanaka #277. While I would love to expel some sort of long, mysterious reason for it I can’t, the reason is rather simple. It was an error on the part of a Contractor that was working on the lodge. He wasn’t a Mason and so when he attached the Symbol he didn’t know he had put it on upside down…I don’t know why it hasn’t been correcrted but Lodge Wanaka is famous throughout NZ for it so maybe thats the reason?
