Hi,

It seems like freemasonry has been banned in my country (Pakistan) for decades now. I guess since early 1970s. Before that, since Pakistan was a British colony till 1947, freemasonry was pretty active here. But in early 70s, the then government banned freemasonry here and confiscated their lodge in Lahore.

After reading Dan Brown’s Novel “The Lost Symbol” and then doing some follow up research on freemasonry, my point of view about the fraternity has been changed in a major way, and I have this great desire to join and be part of the group of men trying to become better.

Is there anyway I can join some lodge, or find out if freemasons are still active in my country but of course hidden from public eye?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Shuaib,

I am afraid that if you found a Lodge operating in your Country it would not be proper Freemasons. Part of the Masonic discipline is that we do not break the Law of the land. I am afraid that unless your goverment doesn’t change its stance you will not be able to be made a Freemason. Sorry.

Thanks for your reply btw.

Unfortunately, you need to be at least resident in the Country where you join a Lodge. Also no respectable Lodge would want to be involved in making you a criminal in your own Country and if I remember correctly it is not just the organisation that is banned but actually becoming a member of it.

However, if you were to move across the Border and live in India you could join a Lodge there as Freemasonry is not illegal there.
