Gents, I was just toying around on Mapquest, and have an idea…

Let’s look at Harrisburg, PA as sort of a halfway point that might work out.

Butch—Richmond, VA (4 hours to Harrisburg)
Bob—Baltimore, MD (1.5 hours to Harrisburg)
Martin—Cuyahoga Falls, OH (5.25 hours to Harrisburg)
Steve—Aurora, IN (8.5 hours to Harrisburg)
JC—Manchester, NH (7.5 hours to Harrisburg)

We could even find a nice lodge and take in an EA or FC degree while there.  Anyone else want to join in, let’s have some fun and meet up!  I like what MO called it, the “Ask a Freemason Class of 2010”!

Butch,

A good suggestion. However, I am not sure if this will be true of the rest of you, I have a suspicion it might be, but REYoung has been a great source of information and counsel for me throughout this process and continues to be. Whatever destination we decide on I would humbly recommend that it be a location that assures ReYoung’s attendance if he should choose to join us.

Butch, good thought. I know Harrisburg very well, having been born and raised there. (My father and grandfather were members of Robert Burns Lodge #464 in Harrisburg). I go there twice a year for the Scottish Rite. (Like my elders, I am a member of Harrisburg Consistory.) There are, however, some things to think about. From all the posts, we have this scenario:
Butch will be raised in March.
Steve probably in April/May.
Martin probably in May/June, possibly later.
John may get started soon, but unless his lodge meets in the summer, doubtful he’ll be raised until fall.

I’ll send a PM to all of you with an idea I have forming for a good time in Baltimore in November. Have to talk with a few people to explore, but I’m excited about this.

Hopefully, once things start to move (if I am accepted), it is a possibility of earning the MM before the summer break!  The Lodge does break I believe for July and August.  I am all ears though!

Easy there champ. Mind you I will be back home in Ireland in June so a hop across the pond is not unreasonable. Probably my wife won’t permit it though.

:)  Wow! A real travelling man already!

I hate to throw cold water on such a stupendous idea, but visiting a London lodge is much more difficult than it is here. You usually need an invitation from a member, because they usually have dinner and your host has to pay for you. Then there is the matter of proper dress, which may be white tie and tails! Nice thought, though.

Hello all.

Wow, we appreciate all the excitement this discussion has fostered.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, gentlemen, but because this Forum is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, all the Ambassadors get notification emails whenever a post is put on the Forum. Since this thread has moved into a more personal direction, in an effort to better use all of our time, I was hoping those on this “meeting” thread could continue this particular planning discussion by email.

Certainly we would love to hear the final outcome!

Please don’t take any offense—we still want all your participation—Hope you understand.

Gents,

I have sent all parties concerned an email generated from the forum with my own email address in the body.

I suggest each of you email me a response so that I can gather our personal emails and I will then send out a group email to make it easy to respond to everyone at once. We can then move this discussion out of the forum and into our personal email addresses.

Bob Heruska and other admins, sorry for the inconvenience. As John said I did not realize you folks were pinged everytime a topic was posted to.

Not an issue. And PM’s are fine, though your box is limited.

And my apologies for having to say something—it’s just the nature of this particular Forum ...

Good luck, guys.

(And I like the whole AskAFreemason Class of 2010!)

Thanks Bob…

I didn’t realize either that you guys would get an email everytime we post something!  MO just sent me an email and I replied.  I think it is wise to take this topic to either email or a PM.

You know what else would be pretty neat?  Let’s all go up to Boston, MA and meet the Admins/Moderators of this forum!  I used to be stationed in Boston, back in my US Coast Guard days and still know the area quite well.  It would be really special to visit the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts!

Butch
