Hmmm…  Regarding music and Masonry, I do know that these famous classical composers were Masons.  So music has always played an important part of Freemasonry.

Franz Joseph Haydn
Franz Liszt
Jakob Mendelssohn
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Jean Sibelius
John Philip Sousa

I found a bunch of other musicians who are/were Masons:

Roy Acuff
Louie Armstrong
Eddy Arnold
Count Basie
Irving Berlin
Roy Clark
Nat “King” Cole
Edward “Duke” Ellington
Burl Ives
Al Jolson
Glenn Miller
Roy Rogers
Mel Tillis

Others added by me (I read about them, read the liner notes on a CD cover)
“Little Jimmy” Dickens
Brad Paisley
(Little Jimmy Dickens is that older, very short, country star, all decked out in rhinestones.  Brad Paisley has had him as a guest star on his CD’s.  According to the CD’s, Brad Paisley asked Little Jimmy Dickens about Freemasonry, and he signed Brad Paisley’s petition and sponsored him into his lodge!)

Sorry….

I am not sure.  I too am a musician (multi-instrumentalist) and don’t think being a Mason would help make me a famous rock star or anything like that.  ;)

Barrelz,

It appears you have no interest in Masonry for Masonry’s sake but rather because you believe it might open some doors for you. This is a shame and I feel a road that must ultimately lead to disappointment. I would suggest that you contemplate the rewards Freemasonry can bring you intrinsically, the building of your character being foremost among these. Perhaps the “secret” of Freemasonry is that by teaching you how to be a better man, those lofty goals you hold in your heart seem all the more achievable. No one is going to sign you to a record deal by virtue of the fact that you are a Mason.

Barrelz,
Please excuse me for being so blunt but if looking to advance your career is the reason to become a Mason, please dont bother with joining. Freemasonry is not a method to advances oneself in a career. It is however a way to develop yourself as a man which in turn may help you in your career but that would simply be a side effect of the values you would learn from the Fraternity.
As far as the “masonic messages” in songs…...well anyone can write what they want but that doesnt make it so. I can say I am a multimillionaire and sing of my riches but that doesnt make it true. I am sure you are thinking about the various “rap” artist that are supposedly ( I dont know if they are or arent) Masons, and I would venture to say you have seen the videos on youtube, I have seen them. Again, dont assume just because someone takes a symbol and uses it in a particular way means they are a member of a particular organization.
To any of the Brother Masons, if I have spoken out of line please do accept my apology.

I agree with MO and fireman99.  Freemason is not about “advancing a career”.  I didn’t join because I wanted to further my I.T. career or anything like that.  I joined because Freemasonry is such a historic fraternity that does so much charitable work around the world.  To me, it’s an honor to be part of it!

hmm… what these above masons are stating would be the “ideal” thing to believe.  The symbolism portrayed through lyrics, videos and hand symbols is too much of a coincidence for me to believe that such artists are not affiliated with the Freemasons.  In fact, it only makes sense for the Freemasons to use such artists as a medium to contribute the control that the Freemasons will have in society.  You see the Freemasons use an ancient arts and occult sciences to manipulate peoples minds and thoughts.  Google Popculture Magick.  These ancient arts and occult sciences were originated by the elderly zionist Jews and Egyptians at the time of the Pharoah.

why do you need masonry for bettering your career? Besides isn’t it obvoius from what the brothers have said that your wasting your time? Sorry to be so blunt but you have no idea what masonry is, your only looking at what it can do for you. I’ve been a mason for a few years now and I’ve never gained any personal benefit beyond fraternity, enlightenment, and many other things you seem not to understand. Try reading about masonry with your heart before you let you mind confuse you. You’ll see that all those famous mason musicians where enlightened and benefitted from the spirit more than the wallet, and that was made them great. Your name will only give you the honor you bestow upon it, not the honor a membership card could give you.

To the Masonic members:
I suspect that these guys are not talking about the “Music Industry” in general but about the “Rap music industry”, at present several high profile performers (most notably the “gangster” multi-millionaire Jay-Z)are cashing in on using Masonic imagery in their videos and marketing. Unfortunately many of today’s youth are not able to separate the reality from the hype.

To the newcomers:
Lads, we, the Masons do not actually run the music industry and joining a Lodge will not, in fact, can not help you become rich and famous in it. You have fallen prey to the conspiracy theorists and their funny, warped ideas about the world around them.

We’ve briefly discussed this before here: http://www.masonforum.com/viewthread/1532/

Jay-Z is a half-decent rapper and a marketing genius! That is why he has gone from nothing to being a multi-millionaire but he is not (he has admitted this himself) a Freemason and he has no link to Freemasonry. He saw what was being circulated on the Net about his “diamond” sign and cashed in on the sheeple’s choice to see something Masonic in it. He has since gone further and included actual Masonic symbols (square and compasses) in his latest gear.

You need to wake up you are being misled!

Mike

no i was asking if becoming a mason can help you get into the music industry easier?

No, but asking that question will make impossible to get into the fraternity. You see, there is a requirement that you are not joining for mercenary reasons. Freemasons are the kind of people who give without expecting anything in return. You have it backward.

I will tell you that if I need something done and I have the choice of hiring a Freemason or a non-Mason to do it, I’ll go with the mason every time. The reason is not what you might expect, though. The reason is that there’s a better than average chance that a fellow Freemason will be the kind of man that will offer everyone he does business with a fair deal and he will give me good value for my money. I don’t expect to pay a brother Mason less than I would a non-Mason, I just feel that we share the values. we both probably believe “You can’t do square work if you cut corners.”

I’m seriously thinking of adding a line to my signature on this forum that says, “No, Jay-Z is not a Mason” :)
