I ordered my Master Mason ring from JemsbyJem last year. I’ve been very happy with it, and have gotten lots of compliments from Masons and non-Masons alike on its design. The selection offered is huge, and the ring is a good buy. By the way, the man running the business is a brother Mason as well. I would recommend JemsbyJem. I’m in Arkansas and have submitted my application to start the process of becomming a Mason. My Great Grandfather was a Mason, my Grandfather was a Mason as was my Uncle and as is my Brother. After searching the many various organizations, there purpose, tradition(s) and visiting with different members of several of the Groups, my decision, with no disrespect or lesser thought to the “others” was to ask to be a Mason. I appreciate the traditions and expectations and requirements levied upon a prospective member. I also appreciate the fact I’ll have to earn my membership in a traditional fashion. I guess I’m “old school” too but I believe things that are earned seem often to hold a higher value than that which is simply given. I was hoping to get one of my Grandfather’s rings but that didn’t work out so I purchased a very nice “pre-owned” ring on e-bay which I will not wear until I become a Master Mason and can display it with the pride and tradition it deserves.
I am delighted to hear of your joining our Craft. You will come to cherish Freemasonry. You may wish to get a stainless-steel ring, as well. I do a lot of international work, so I keep my good rings at home in a safe, and wear the steel ring, when I am overseas. You may wish to check out the pawn shops in your area, you can spot some good used rings there.
I started out like you looking for a deal. My 1st was a stainless steel like the one you looked at. It was scratched junk, and embarassing to wear with in a month. The ring I wear now is Gold, and I got it used at a coin shop for $150. It is big, and fancy. They had other gold rings in the $100 range. Plan on $30 more to get it sized. It is a symbol of pride. Try not to go cheap. You could also look at pawn shops. Many old timers die, and the kids don’t want the ring.
