I enjoy the ring. However after 1 month of wearing it around town, antibacterial soaps, showers and other rough daily life I have decided that this rind is really a “dress” ring. The blue gem and the square and compass are holding up. mp signs onf damage or fading on them. The rest of the ring has taken a beating. The dings and scrapes make the ring uniquely mine. However the gold vermil has faded off. The sales person has told me it basically has free life time re-dippings. If i get the gold put back on it it will be a lodge ring. But i kinda like the silver and gold look of it. 7 people in the last 2 months at my work have asked me about it. One was yesterday. [5-2-11] Glad the info was helpful. My Grand Lodge Most Worshipful Master presented my ring to me [I bought it and asked if he would], so to me mines just a little more then a ring to be replaced when beat down. Perhaps i should treat the ring like we are taught to treat out fellow man. Take a good ring and make it better. :)
Anyone looking for Masonic rings (MM, Scottish Rite,York Rite, Shriner, etc) might want to check out their local pawn shops. My fiance (MM at Winslow Lewis Lodge, Osseo, MN) and I have happened across some wonderful rings at different pawn shops! I have to say, I was extremely suprised to see them there! We just recently ran across a very beautiful ring that had the double eagle, with an ornate 33 and OES along with a beautiful med sized sapphire in it, selling for $489. The value of the ring was well over $1200!
Have a wonderful day gentleman and many blessings!

Good idea!
Interesting note, by they way. Winslow Lewis was actually a member of my lodge in Boston!
Perhaps you can explain the symbolism on the ring to us?
The St.Andrews Cross speaks for itself I suppose? As you may know, the Swedish rite is unique in that it only accepts christian men. The rest of the symbols are not supposed to be discussed in an open forum.

Acutally, I was hoping for an explanation because I think most blue lodge Freemasons would look at that ring and see absolutely nothing Masonic about it. St. Andrew’s cross is not a Masonic symbol outside the Swedish Rite, which we know nothing about as stated before. It is also used in the Scottish Rite in the United States in the 29th degree only.
I also don’t know what the letter C stands for. I’ve never seen the letter C used in Freemasonry before. The only thing I can think of is that it stands for Christ, since it can’t stand for Gud (God in Swedish) or geometry (geometri in Swedish).
So that’s why I was asking you to explain the ring. To most American Freemasons it appears to have absolutely nothing to do with Freemasonry. I believe you and I’m sure it does, but from our perspective it is going to require some explainaing. If you don’t feel comfortable posting what those items represent on the forum, feel free to PM me. I’m really curious now.

With all due respect, my broter - I won’t put these things on the net at all. I am sure you can google up several pictures of the ring for yourselves to verify that this is indeed the Swedish rite’s 8th degree ring.
However, I can tell you a little more about it - the things you don’t see in the picture. The ring is in six parts, three circles and three oblongs. It has (usually)three St. Andrew’s crosses, and the letters C, D and S.
Bear in mind that the Swedish masons in old times had a thing for Latin. (not used so much nowadays). Hope this helps.
I understand. All I’m saying is that most if not all of what is on that ring is pretty much unidentifiable as anything Masonic to most Masons here in the US at least. Of course the cross you have on there is something that you would most likely only find on a Swedish Masonic ring. As for the latin, that’s a good hint, thank you.
You don’t have to share any info if you don’t want to, of course. I’m just letting you know that if someone showed that ring to most members of most lodges here….it would have no more significance than a ring from any other non-Masonic fraternal order…as nice as the ring is.
I’m just trying to avoid confusing visitors to this site. I have absolutely no problem telling a forum what the square and compasses mean, or the trowel, or any other widely known Masonic symbol. These are not Masonic secrets.
Perhaps if we meet in person someday you can explain those foreign symbols to me, as from my understanding Swedish Masonry is VERY different in structure from that of Masonry in the United States or in most other countries. So you can see why there would be some confusion.
Others can feel free to support or refute my claims here. I assume I am not alone in saying that ring at first glance doesn’t appear to have much if anything to do with Masonry as we know it. I believe you that it DOES, but there is nothing on there that I recognize immediatly as Masonic, and I’ve seen most everything. Perhaps I’m not seeing the whole ring, and maybe that is part of the problem.
Anyway, thanks for posting it. It would definitely have been an interesting point of discussion if someone was actually willing to discuss it. Unfortunately, since we don’t recognize any of the symbolism on the ring as being Masonic, and as you are guarding those symbols as if they were Masonic secrets, there isn’t much discussion to be had. I guess it will remain our little “mystery ring”. :)

Actually, so far the only image I can find is the one you’ve provided. Perhaps because I’m searching in English, and like I said, most of the English and American Masons don’t know this ring. Perhaps if I knew the Swedish words for “Swedish Rite 8th degree ring” I might be able to find more images to examine it more closely.
Thanks brother Norbro! After seeing those images, it is clear how VERY different Swedish masonry is from the rest of the world!
I understand that there is a strong connection between a portion of York Rite Masonry and the Swedish Rite, but apart from that, I’m just stumped by the rest of it. Some of the other rings on the site include the square and compasses, as well as a star of David with a G in the middle. VERY interesting indeed.
We had a visitor from the Grand Lodge of Sweden in our lodge just recently. I wish this thread had happened earlier, as I would have love to have gotten an explanation of this ring.
HEY!! This just came to me. What about “Christus” “Dei” and “Spiritus Sanctum”??
C, D, and S. That’s my best guess, and knowing that the G we use stands for Geometry and God, and that Swedish Freemasonry is decidedly Christian focus, might those letters signify a holy trinity?
Odd to find such a thing on a Masonic ring, but then again, as I’ve already admitted, Swedish masonry is an enigma to me.
