I have a question pertaining to the York Rite. I was told that one of the vows or obligations taken in the York carries a penalty for breaking it of having to be held accountable for our sins at judgment or something to that effect. I personally belief that as a Christian Jesus bore the burdens for my sins and I wouldn’t feel comfortable going through that appendant body if even the mention of bearing our own sins were mentioned in the obligations.  I don’t want to be to specific, but does any of the vows in York Rite pertain to Judgment day?

I am not a York Rite Mason. I do know several fine York Rite Masons, including one Christian Pastor (retired), who is a member of the York Rite College, and holder of many York Rite honors.

I can assure you, that there is nothing contained in the York Rite obligations, which are in any way inimical to the Christian religion.  The York rite is split into three sections. The Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, the council of Cryptic Masons, and the Commandery of Knight templar Masons.  The Chapter is non-sectarian, it accepts men who are not of the Christian Religion.

I suggest that you contact a York Rite mason in your jurisdiction, and ask for his guidance.

I am also not a York Rite Mason but in reading your question, I’m a bit confused.

I am a Christian, and being such, I believe I am accountable for my sins. If there is an Obligation that you describe, and again I am not a York Rite Mason so I don’t know, why as a Christian would you have a problem stating you are accountable for your sins? If it is your belief that Jesus bore our sins, did you thing that was forever? You were born with a clean slate, what if you sin now? Does that have any bearing on you now? Shouldn’t you be held accountable? If I broke the law, I would be held accountable.

Just food for thought. I in no way preach any religion on anyone. I just came up with some thought for what I believe. You asked an honest question and I hope you find your answers.

In agreement with Brother Charles, ask some York Rite Masons and you might just find what your looking for.

Good luck in your journey!

Fraternally,
Scott

As an active York Rite Mason, I know of no obligation that makes you face judgement day or holds sins over you. York Rite Masonry is a continuation of the Blue Lodge ritual. It is indeed a unique part of the fraternity and in my opinion the hidden jewel of Freemasonry. The culmination of which is the Knights Templar.

I highly recommend all brethren to join this special part of Freemasonry.

Fraternally,

Jacob
