To whom it may concern,

My name is Evert Ingjaldsson and I’m becoming a flight instructor here at Daytona Beach, Florida. I’m from Iceland and when my visa runs out I’ll most likely move back home or to Denmark.

My questions are three, is there anything like an open house going on at the Freemasons in my town area soon ?

I know that in Reykjavik, Icelands capital, they have an open house once a year and somehow I always miss it.

I would really like to become a member but for now I’m moving around a lot (Iceland, USA, Denmark).. since I know you are an international fellowship, is there any thing like a global-member where I could start getting my degree here in Daytona and hopefully carry on in Denmark 2009 ? (I’m most likely going to stay here till the end of 2008).

Do I have to know a Freemason in my area to get in or is it enough that I know members in Iceland?

Well, hope to hear from you soon..

Hi, Evert-

Thank you very much for your question and interest in Freemasonry.

AskaFreemason.org was developed by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts.  The best resource for finding out about Open Houses in your area is the Grand Lodge of Florida, http://www.glflamason.org.  Mr. Roy Connor Sheppard is their Grand Secretary and a good contact.  They would also be able to help you with your interest in membership.  Because each lodge manages its own membership process, there isn’t any standardized process for joining the Fraternity in the manner you described.  Depending on how long you have been in Florida, you should be able to complete your degrees before you return home.  Although you may not know any Masons at this time, you will certainly become acquainted with some members as you begin the process.  You will then have the opportunity to find the necessary sponsors.  Do not hesitate to contact the Grand Lodge of Florida.  I know they will welcome your inquiry.
