Thank you very much for your email and interest in Freemasonry.
There are three primary requirements for becoming a Mason in Massachusetts:
1. You are an adult male (18 or older) of good moral character.
2. You are interested in becoming a Mason because you hold a favorable opinion of our institution; and, your decision to apply is based on your own “free will and accord” - no one compelled you to join.
3. You believe in a Supreme Being - no atheist or agnostic can be a reason - but we are not concerned with how you define or worship your Supreme Being.
Assuming you meet these requirements, the first step towards becoming a member is finding a lodge near you to petition joining. The process is managed at the lodge level and you will need to let them know of your interest. I encourage you to touch base with a lodge near your home or work - the “Lodge Locator” on massfreemasonry.org has the name and contact information of a Brother for every lodge in Massachusetts. Speaking with a member is also be the best resource for learning more about the Fraternity as he will answer your questions and provide you with additional information; and, if you would like, find a convenient time to meet with you, introduce you to some other members, tour their building, and address any other issues you might have. I can also help you find an appropriate contact, or direct someone to follow up with you if you prefer.
Milton Lodge meets in Quincy and might be a place to start. Mr. George Resto is their Masonic Ambassador and a good contact. He can be reached at 617.786.0127, or . Do not hesitate to contact George; I know he will welcome your inquiry.
