I congratulate you. This will be your first time in a tyled (members only) lodge of Freemasons. I encourage you to relax, and enjoy the experience. One advice: After you complete the degree work, you should seek out a nearby lodge, and attend as a visitor, when they perform an EA degree. Watching from the sidelines, will increase your understanding of what you have completed.

Congratulations my (soon to be) Brother. I am sure you will do well.

The only advise I will give you is to try and pay attention to what is being said at all times.

In reality it will be a blur, as it is to most people. Each jurisdiction is slightly different in its ritual but I would also tell you to listen to what is asked of you and about you in your presence.

Good luck.

I’m Junior Deacon of my lodge so preparation of the candidates is my responsibility. There is a lot of ritual I need to do, but before any of that starts, I like to sit with the candidates and tell them about a very nervous young man who was sitting where they are now. As he was sitting there waiting, I came over to him and told him, “Remember that every man in that room voted for you to become their friend and brother. You have nothing to fear from them. The officers of the lodge have put in many hours of memorization and rehearsal to make sure this evening is one you will fondly remember for the rest of your life. You will never be harmed or even embarrassed by this lodge. Relax and enjoy the beautiful ceremony that you are about to be part of just like every other Mason has for three hundred years.”

I said the same thing last week when we initiated six new Brothers.

I can’t agree with you more windrider. I was in the same situation. Before our initiation started, i think it was one of the Master of Ceremonies or Chaplain who gave us a nice talk. We chatted, joked around a bit, and talked about our lives. That kind of broke the ice for everyone and was very soothing. Then everyone had to get serious of course because it is, well, like you said, a very beautiful tradition that’s been going on for hundreds of years if not thousands. Have a good one Brothers
