Hello everyone, i am excited that i am now a EA! This was an extremely different experience for me, at night before i go to sleep i picture going through it again. I want to say the brotherhood of all the men at the lodge were very welcoming, I was a tad bit nervous stumbling all over the place, but they all said, take some time to learn everything, you will be more knowledgeable in the future. We all were nervous our first times as well. Is there a book that can someone pm me that goes over the 1st degree of the craft.

Congrats Brother Dennis.  Glad you enjoyed it.  You should have been assigned a mentor to help you learn what you need to know before being passed to Fellow Craft.  Here in NY we are given a cipher book that we must memorize that pretty much covers the entire degree.

I add my congratulations. See if you can find a nearby lodge, and arrange to attend an EA degree, as a visitor. It will help you understand and absorb, what you have seen. Good Luck.

Thank you very much pdh! I have not been assigned a mentor yet, should i ask for one, or should i sit and wait for one. IS there a way i could get this cipher book online??

Our cipher book is not available on line.  If I were you, I would speak to the WM or Secretary about what you need to do to prepare for advancing to the next degree.  There is usually some type of proficiency examination required before being advanced from EA to FC and from FC to MM.  What lodge did you join?

it is kinda confusing, because it says that its lodge 1166 http://www.mastermason.com/oaklawn1166/ but on the apron i have recieved it says oak lawn lodge 815

i am not sure they changed it. or didnt update the website. And also the times of the meetings are 7 not 730 as stated on the website.
I did talk to the secretary about a book not about preparing and he gave me the entered apprentice guidebook/handbook. When the next meeting pops up i will ask for what do i need to prepare for the second degree. They said that it would happen in january or febuary.

Congrats Brother Dennis!  I am right there with you, I was just initiated last week also.  Did they not assign you a coach?  I guess I got lucky, they assigned my coach that night, gave me the cypher that night also.  I have only been able to meet with my coach once so far, but we will be getting together a bit every night until the Holiday I presume.

Congratulations on your EA.  This is an exciting (and nervewracking) time for you, and you should enjoy it.  Don’t forget though, its something that you will have for life as well, so don’t rush through ... smell the roses as they say ;)

Welcome!

i asked and they said pretty much we are going to guide you through the second degree, i asked about learning, and they said you will have much to learn in the near future. I am not sure if they are waiting till my passing or possibly raising for my learning.

Oh my word, a new brother just like me CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER JBUTLER! . They have not given me a cypher or a coach, i asked what i could do for second degree, and they said we will walk you through it, all though after my first meeting as a entered apprentice, i felt kinda special because i got the jewels and the sticks sorry if i use the wrong term for the worshipful master. And they said to me your more observant then other masons.
