There are lodges all over New York city.  You need to find a lodge in your neighborhood, and contact the secretary, and obtain a petition (application form). You will then fill out the petition, and submit it to the lodge secretary. I suggest that you visit the Grand Lodge of New York website at:

http://www.nymasons.org

The lodge locator, will tell you where the lodge is in your neighborhood. You can also read about the history of Freemasonry in New York, and examine the requirements for petitioning.

I belong to a lodge in the Buffalo area. Please send me a PM, with your name/address/phone/email, and I will be glad to assist you.

I became a Mason in Nassau County, in Floral Park—very close to Queens.

There are dozens of lodges in the Five Boroughs, as well as Long Island and Westchester, etc. The Grand Lodge of New York has it’s home in Manhattan, and many lodges meet in that building—including St. John’s Lodge #1, the owners & keepers of the George Washington Inaugural Bible! There are also numerous Masonic Halls in Queens, Brooklyn, and the other boroughs—with several lodges meeting in each hall.

So there is no lack of opportunity to become a Mason in NYC!

Dear RK21: Re: New York, NY
Masonic History contains some remarkable Lodges and extraordinary members:
On May 30th, 1787, a group of eight Masons of Dutch descent living in New York City petitioned Grand Lodge for permission to establish a new lodge that would conduct its proceedings in the Low Dutch language : thus started The Holland Lodge #8:
http://www.hollandlodgeno8.org
As one of New York’s premier lodges, included in its membership have been such luminaries as Commodore Matthew C. Perry, Edward H. Harriman and Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was raised in Holland Lodge in 1911.
Today, the lodge confers three sets of degrees each year, raising three to five new Master Masons in each class.
In late December, in honor of St. John’s Day, the lodge’s usual Friday luncheon is replaced by an especially festive luncheon at which is served our late Brother Frank Baker’s legendary Fish House Punch, a libation that must be experienced to be believed. I hear it is very good, though have never tried it!
