Freemasonry is a fraternity. It is an organization composed of men from many different religious and professional backgrounds. An applicant’s medical history, is not considered, when he makes application to the fraternity. The basic requirements for petitioning freemasonry, are stated by each individual state’s Grand Lodge. Some states have a residency requirement, California requires the applicant to be resident in California for 12 months.
If you meet the requirements set forth by your state’s Grand Lodge, you will be accepted for membership.
As far as being helped, that question really has no specific answer. Masonry is, among other things, a self-improvement program. Masons are encouraged to practice a high standard of ethical and moral conduct. Masonry encourages its members to study the seven liberal arts and sciences. Masonry gives men a chance to participate in charitable and humanitarian programs (Masonry itself, is not a charitable organization, in the traditional sense).
I encourage you to research Masonry in general, and also to visit the website for your state of residence. If you decide that Masonry is right for you, then you must contact the lodge in your city, and request a petition. Most states forbid recruitment, the decision must be your own, without outside influence or pressure.
Please feel free to PM me, if you have any specific questions.
