Masonry requires that all applicants and members believe in God. Your own personal religious views and practices, are a matter of extreme privacy, and of no concern to Masonry. Only an avowed atheist may not be made a Mason.  Masonry accepts men of many different and varying religious beliefs. There are Christian Masons, Jewish Masons, Muslim Masons, and Masons who do not belong to any specific stated church. I suggest that you contact the lodge in your local area, or the Grand Lodge in your state of Residence, for a specific statement of policy, in your state.

For a general statement of the requirements to petition Freemasonry, I suggest you visit;

http://www.masonic-renewal.org/freemasonry_explained.htm

Some states have a residency requirement, California requires 12 months of continuous residence, prior to petitioning. Some states have a minimum age of 18, some require all applicants to be at least 21.

Hi there.

Thanks for your question.

Just wondering—your screen name, Plumbdumb, indicates to me a Masonic connection. Do you have one? Or have you just been doing a lot of research?

Either way, have a joyous and thankful Memorial Day Weekend.

There are lodges in the Wilmington NC metro area. Here is the email for the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina:

I suggest you contact the Grand Secretary, and ask for his help in locating a lodge in your area of residence. You can also check in the phone book, under “fraternal organizations”
