Hello,

My name is Mark, I am a 21 year old University student in Perth, Western Australia. I have been interested in the Freemason craft for many years now, and I was hoping that I now may now make a suitable candidate to join the brotherhood. I was originally born in the UK and my second cousins husband is a Freemason in the UK. Becuase i live in Perth and it is such a small and out of the way place, I was wondering if you would be able to point me in the right direction of how a may be able to gather more information on joining a local lodge? Any information would be much appreciated.

Also do you believe that I would make a suitable Mason? I understand my age is young, but I hold many inner qualities that I would love to share with others and gain knowledge and direction in my path throughout life.

Many Thanks,
~Mark

Glad you dropped by. The first step in becoming a Mason, is to make an enquiry. You have made the first step. Masonry is alive and well in WA. Here is the link for the Grand Lodge of Western Australia:

http://www.gl-of-wa.org.au

There are a number lodges in Perth, locating one is a simple matter. You need to get on the WA website, and post your enquiry. The Grand Lodge will answer, with how you are to proceed.

The qualifications for petitioning Freemasonry, are spelled out on the website. You are of the minimum age, so no worries in that regard.

If you are a man of good moral character, and believe in the Supreme Being, you will meet the requirements for Masonry.

I do not know you, so I cannot state if you would make a suitable mason. After reading the requirements, and discussing it with a Mason in your area, you will be better able to answer for yourself.

I wish you every possible success in Freemasonry.

May the Great Architect of the Universe, guide your steps.

Mark, Thanks for you questions from Western Australia. One of the real beauties of the Masonic Fraternity is the elimination of distance between brothers. I find as an Ambassador of Masonry, here in Massachusetts, USA, where this Forum originates, that the new relationships that come from the communications over broad distances secure great friendships. You will find that more men around you will come forth as Master Masons, once you make the committment. Your UK roots will also provide long distance relationships. In all, Perth will be the hub of your universe in Masonry. At twenty-one years of age, you’ll experience a unique advantage to draw much guidance your way for those interested in your Masonic development.  Best of Luck.

Thank you for your words of guidance, I will take into account what you have said and follow your advice.

I have seen some signs around displaying the Freemason symbol and the words 2B1ASK1, obviously this means to be a Freemason ask a Freemason, but what if I do not know any Freemasons? How can I spot one out? If I did spot one out would it be rude of me to approach them and ask them for help? Is there any way that Freemasons distinguish other Freemasons?

I dont wish to offend anyone by simply asking them a blunt straight out question, that they may take the wrong way.

Your question is valid. If you do not know any Freemasons, you need to contact the Grand Lodge of Western Australia, on the link I provided. You can contact them by email or telephone. Someone there, will be glad to help you. Once you contact the Grand Lodge, ask for a petition for the degrees of Masonry, and advice on how to proceed.

You can also call/email the lodge in your neighborhood. There are many lodges in Perth. You can locate one in the phone book, or just drive up to the lodge building, and knock on the door.

Most masons wear a masonic ring, or some other form of identification. I often wear a masonic baseball cap.

No mason will be offended, if you approach him, and ask him about Masonry. Most masons love to talk about the craft.

I suggest you get cracking, and contact the Grand Lodge of WA, and inform them of your desire to be a Freemason. The procedure is not complicated, but there is a procedure, nonetheless.

Hi
I currently reside in Romania , but the grand lodge here is not recognised by the Grand Lodge of England , so I’m not sure what to think about it.
I am intrested in freemasonry , and how it can help me while i help it.
I tried browsing the web , but most sites are anti-masonic. I’m not saying all freemasons are saints , it’s just that I am fed up with anti-masonic propaganda.
I want to hear a freemason’s take on the situation of the brotherhood.

I have heard that 33 degree freemasons were involved in liberating Romania from the austro-hungaian empire around 1916.I honestly see a lot of freemasons doing great things , and would like to know more.

I also don’t know any freemasons , regular or otherwise , and would like to chat more on issues .

If you can help , please do so.

Respectfully,
Olar Alin

The National Grand Lodge of Romania is a regular Grand Lodge, and is recognized by the Grand Lodge in England. Here is the web page:

http://www.glr.ro/index_ro.php

Here is an additional article (English language), about how masonry returned to Romania in 1993:

http://www.srmason-sj.org/council/journal/feb99/COMANESC.HTM

I encourage you to contact the National Grand Lodge of Romania, and request their help in petitioning Freemasonry.

Masonry is a fraternity of men, worldwide. There are some people who really hate the organization, do not trust what they say.

To tell you the truth , it is confusing.
The Grand Lodge of England , said it didn;t recognise freemasons in Romania as regular , in a mail reply in january. They said they might reconsider at a quarterly communication in march 12th.
I also wrote to the Supereme Council , and they said that Romanian freemasons are regular.
So as you can see , I’m all mixed up.
I will conact the lodge and see what to do.

My issue is this : When I finsih college I intend to move abroad to work and live. I would feel very sorry , if i joined freemasonry here , and abroad I’d have to start over. I plan to leave anyway for economic oportunities(better pay-checks) but I also intend to join-freemasonry .

As for people who hate freemasonry , I know they exist , and sometimes these people who claim to do good , are the biggest thieves in the world , exploiting people as much as possible.

Thanks for your help.Hope to meet you at a lodge meeting one day :-)

You have several choices. Once you join the lodge in Romania, you will be able to visit and fellowship with other Masonic lodges worldwide. You may choose to take out a dual membership, and join a lodge at your new location. Regardless, of your career plans, I encourage you to proceed with Masonry.  I joined Masonry, when I was in college (in the USA), and my first job after college was in Africa.

There is an excellent organization for young men, called the Order of DeMolay

http://www.demolay.org

The organization teaches leadership, patriotism, etc.  I would be more than glad to assist you in getting an application, and joining. Just send me your name, address, etc. and I will help you reach a DeMolay in your area.

I am in Iraq, and pleased to meet you.
