I understand, I need to turn in a birth certificate for admission in a lodge. I heard this was because freemansonry does not accept illegitemate children as members. Is this true?
If you believe that, then you are mistaken. The requirements for petitioning Freemasonry are clearly spelled out on most state’s Grand lodge websites. You do not have to turn in your birth certificate. If you want to get a list of the general requirements to petition Freemasonry, then see:
Some states have a residency requirement. Georgia requires the petitioner to be a Georgia resident for three years. California has a one-year residency requirement. Kentucky only requires that you be a Kentucky resident. Some states will waive the residency requirement for active duty military persons.

This is a good question but for the wrong reason. I am a Mason in Massachusetts but I first became a Mason in my home state of TX. I was asked to submit a birth cirtificate for obvious reasons..my age and identification. It was not long ago a birth cirtificate could take the place of a passport to re-enter in to the United States. The information provided to you on the previous post should help you. You really should talk to a Mason to get all your questions answered.
