Scottish Rite is quicker and less work.  Both provide some rich degrees that will add to your experience.
I suggest you speak with your lodge members and find out which your friends belong to.
You are more apt to continue in either one if your friends, new or old, are also involved.
The fellowship is most important.

I also encourage you to ask around. You may find several of your fellow masons are of one rite or another. (It is perfectly all right to go BOTH rites, should you feel this way!).

I took the Scottish Rite in 1988, and I have enjoyed the experience, I have published several articles in the Scottish Rite Journal, See:

May I also encourage you to seriously consider the Shrine.  It is a marvelous organization, with a wonderful philanthropy, the 22 FREE crippled and burned children’s hospitals.

Please keep in mind, there are over 100 (one hundred) appendant and concordant bodies of Masonry. I call it a “cafeteria of organizations”. You can always find some type of group, to call your own!!

Speaking here as a fellow Fellow Craft, I would say from a historical perspective if nothing else, you should at least do Royal Arch.

Maybe you should consider taking some time to really take in Freemasonry before you extend yourself.  I have been a Mason since 2000 and am now presiding Master of my lodge.  I am not a member of any other body because my schedule is full just in the Craft.  I may join another body in the future but for now I have many projects and events to keep me busy for a while.  I wish you good luck on your journey.
