Sirs:

Thanks for providing an open forum in which to discuss ideas of note-- if only the Green Dragon were still open!

I am curious about the relationship between the Architect and the notion of ignorance (lack of knowledge about the past, ignorance towards proper respect).

Why does ignorance exist? Is there a consequence to ignornace? What is the proper avenue for answering questions that seemingly plague one’s existence?

To me this search is one without an end, a search and is specific and unique to each individual. Perhaps ignorance exists as a result of some “original sin.” Do Freemasonry teachings address this concept?

Thanks and regards.

Thank you for your question.  I apologize that you haven’t heard back from anyone earlier.  Your question is a little more challenging than those we normally receive and I guess no one wanted to take a whack at it.

First and foremost it needs to be stated the no one person or entity speaks for Freemasonry.  Therefore, anything outside of the ritual and lessons of our degrees is largely speculation.  As best I can recall, there is only one reference to ignorance.  It is in the context of the passage of time and war as contributors to the fact that we’ve lost many irreplaceable monuments, but Freemasonry remains.

That being stated, inherent in the idea of Freemasonry is that is an educational tool for a man to improve himself.  I know this doesn’t specifically address your questions, but I hope it helps give you an idea.
