The real answer is that is up to the lodge you apply to and the rules of the Grand Lodge of Ireland.

Most of us here are from the United States and some are from England. Perhaps you should contact a lodge near you.

You are in for a long wait if you are only relying on a response from the Grand Lodge.  You would get a much quicker response asking local lodge.

Why don’t you pick the phone up?

When did you contact them?

Realistically, as you have a criminal record, any local lodge - and that includes those in the Provinces and the Metropolitan area of Dublin, will need to get approval to initiate anyone with a record. Your best bet therefore, would be to ask the question direct.  The answer will probably depend on what the offense was, when, and what you got.

The above is made even more tricky if you are a walk-in ie you don’t actually know a Freemason to Propose you to membership of a Lodge.

Things they will consider will include how long ago you were prosecuted (to judge whether you are likely to have changed since then) the actual nature of the offence/s and what good works you have done since to mitigate that earlier behaviour.
