Well it’s done. After months of petitioning and investigation I was welcomed into Campbellton Lodge #32 in New Brunswick, Canada. I had some serious nerves going on when I entered the building but the Tyler(who was also one of the investigative men) greeted me with a big smile and a sense of relief it seemed that I had actually shown up! Lodge meeting was in session so I waited around and had a good chat with the gentleman. He showed me around some more and viewed pictures and badges or medals of past masters and even a couple of Grand Masters who came from our lodge in the distant past. The nerves soon passed and settled into a comfort and an excitement and suddenly it was time.

While being prepared I was constantly assured that I had nothing to be suspect of and that everyone had been through the same thing. One of the men with me said he was in my shoes a year ago. It all made for a welcoming feeling of acceptance. Once prepared we began. The process was lengthy and a little disorienting and the wealth of information being given was far too much to take in at once (something I was warned about) but what I did catch was beautiful. The entire experience was nothing short of expectation and was delivered in a very studied manner. The brothers were undoubtedly prepared which I appreciated and did not take lightly.

Once the initiation was finished and lodge was closed we went for refreshments. In the dining hall I learned that there was representatives from each lodge in our district and many gentlemen came and congratulated me and offered advice and guidance on how to progress . I was invited to go watch the same initiation the following week in another lodge to learn more of what I had been through which I did not decline. There was also some great humor from one man from a lodge in Quebec..he said welcome brother and you are now the youngest mason in the world…being rather overwhelmed by the evening and the sudden spotlight the joke passed over me but when it connected we shared a laugh.

I am very proud and happy to say this was a decision I already know was a great one. And I am excited for the road ahead!

The ceremony is a bit of a sip from a fire-hose, isn’t it? Not to worry; it will make a lot more sense when you see it from the sidelines once or twice.

I am, to be frank, genuinely jealous. I wish I could be in your place to do it all over again. As said, the best is yet to come.

Fraternally,

Bob

That’s what I’m being told and it’s good they offered to bring me to another initiation so quickly while it’s fresh!

Welcome brother!!!! As a fairly new Mason myself, I would advise that you attend other degree work as you can. Seeing it from the sidelines really drives things home. In the past year, I have seen each of the 3 degrees, 3x each. I am fortunate to live near several lodges, all meeting on different nights, so I took advantage of that my first year :)

Very true! Watching the degrees from the sidelines and actually playing a part gives you a whole different perspective.
