Good Question. It depends on the regulations for the Grand Lodge of the state of your residence.
For example: In Kentucky, your petition (application) form, must be signed by two (2) masons, who are members of the lodge that you are petitioning.
In New York, your petition must be signed by three (3), individuals, who need not be masons, but must know you well.
I suggest that you contact the secretary at the lodge nearest your residence, and ask him what the procedure is for your state. You can also contact the Grand Secretary, at the Grand Lodge in your state of residence.
