I have a beautiful daughter that I had out of wedlock. And I’ve also had adjudication withheld on a 3rd degree felony charge.

The felony charge happened before the birth of my daughter. Since then I have turned my life around dramatically and am striving to be a better man. Freemasonry interests me greatly as I see it a path to become a better man, father and hopefully husband once I marry my daughter’s mother.

I’m afraid, however, that I may not be considered if I apply because of my daughter and the felony charge even though I was never convicted.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Masonry has a requirement that its members be of good moral character. Not saints. My feeling is that the incidents you describe will not necessarily bar you from our fraternity. If you feel that Masonry is right for you, and you have made the decision to apply (petition) for membership, then go ahead and apply. I encourage you to be truthful and forthright in your application. Answer all of the application questions truthfully, and you should have no problem at all. If you need help in locating a lodge near your residence, please let us know, and we will assist you.
