They’re just using Masonry to make a play on words in their rhyme. People will believe anything.
The Masons don’t sponsor that junk. Not to mention, it is just BAD hip-hop. I mean my MOM can flow better than that! Would I say that about a brother?
But why listen to me? Take the words right out of Rick Ross’s mouth. Watch the second clip on this page, from MTV.

You can hear in that clip (if you can, like, make out, like, know w’aIm sain’?, like, trying to say, knaw mean?), that he obviously doesn’t know the first thing about Freemasonry but apparently thinks that we are the same as the devil. Would a Mason say that? Furthermore, no Mason calls themselves a “Free Mason”. To us, it is one word. Freemason.
Anyway, we expect this sort of thing. Just because someone makes a song or a movie about something doesn’t make it true. Look at Johnny Depp’s “From Hell”. Fiction, based on a graphic novel, and disproven, yet people still believe it…because they want to.
As for Jay-Z….once again, take it from his own mouth:
b-tch I said I was amazing
Not that I’m a Mason
It’s amazing that I made it though the maze that I was in
He’s clearly saying right there that you misunderstood him in an earlier song and that he’s not a Mason.
Not sure there is much more to say about that. Jay-Z and Rick Ross seem to have answered your question themselves.
