I was just wondering if there is any literature that the FM give the new EA’s wife. My husband was just initiated this past weekend and I haven’t seen anything from the Lodge. My husband was initiated outside of Massachusetts, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Thank you for the link. Very helpful! I have a couple of questions that I am sending my husband with tonight to ask his mentors. He is going to sit at another Lodge to watch an EA initiation for someone from the Lodge he got initiated at. The two Lodges share services, etc. So hopefully one of his mentors will be there to answer my questions!
You can also feel free to ask your questions here. Because your husband is just getting started in Freemasonry, he might not know all of the answers. We are more than happy to fill in any blanks for you.
Does my husband do his Craft at the Lodge, or can it be done anywhere? I know that there are tools that a Freemason uses and they have direct meaning as well as symbolic meanings.
Also, how do I know that a man is a Mason? I know that MMs can vouch for EAs and FCs amongst each other, from reading on-line and the book that I bought, but as far as I go, how would I know? Not trying to be snarky, it is a serious question.

Um…it sounds to me like your understanding of what Masons do is way off. I’m not trying to be insulting, just want to make sure you understand. Your husband doesn’t DO his craft anywhere. The institution of Freemasonry is called “the craft” sometimes, because there are certain moral lessons that are explained through symbols that are often taken from real stone Masons. We don’t actually BUILD anything with tools in the lodge. Does that make sense? I know it can be confusing, so let me know if I lost you.
As for how you know a man is a Mason, if he doesn’t wear any jewelry or hats or shirts or other Masonic emblems, the only way for a non-Mason to know a man is a mason is if he tells you. As for one Mason knowing another, the answer is the same, except we have certain words and handshakes that can essentially ‘prove’ membership.
Yes, I knew from reading on-line and the book that I bought that there are moral lessons that are derived from the tools that are used. I just didn’t know if there was something that was built in addition to the moral lessons, and I thank you for clarifying.
The way I understand the Freemasons is that it helps make a good man a better man.
You don’t need to wait for your husband to bring home materials for you. Feel free to read such books as “Freemasons for Dummies” or “American Freemasons” by Mark Tabbert.

Oh good. That’ll get you a pretty decent explanation of our fraternity.
Essentially that’s it. A fraternity. Focusing on fraternal brotherhood (friendship) and helping others. Just make sure you watch your husband’s waistline. Masons eat too much! ;)
Every week there is a dinner! LOL! Tonight, is their normal meeting and someone is going to be initiated as an EA tonight. My husband and I are going for the dinner ahead of the meeting. I will leave when I see my husband is going to walk into the lodge room. I will pick him up when the meeting/initiation is over. It is about 2 hours, so I know when to be there to come get him. ;)

Blimey his Lodge meets a lot! Especially if he was only Initiated 4 days ago.
Mike
There is a weekly dinner every Wednesday at his Lodge. I’m not sure if the meetings are monthly or bi-monthly. He went to an EA initiation for someone else on Monday, July 26th, at a different local Lodge, where there were several MMs who were at my husband’s Lodge when he was initiated as an EA, as well as a couple of MMs from his own Lodge.
Also, there is another meeting at the same local Lodge on August 9th. Our son-in-law is also becoming a Mason and his initiation is that day, and naturally, my husband will be in attendance.
Oh, and on August 7th, we are volunteering for the local CHIP program [Child Identification Program].
MODERATOR NOTE:
To keep this thread on track, I’ve deleted all the posts about misuse of the forum. Post #8 contains MY words, and MY repsonse to freemasonwife. I have no idea why it looks like it is coming from her, but we’ll look into it.
Let’s get this conversation back on the rails here. There appears to be no maliciousness afoot.
There was a pamphlet “what every masonic wife should know”. I read it some years ago, but it may be out of print now. I found some excellent material on the web, if anyone is interested, send me a PM, and I will send the URL’s. (I cannot post outside URL’s on this site)
