I am sincerely intersted in becoming a Freemason. My grandfather was a Mason and always had wishes for me to follow. Although he wished for me to become a member he stressed to me to ask when I was at a point in my life that i could fully accept and abide. Unfortunately my grandfather passed without ever seeing his wishes honored. I am now at a point in my life that I believe I am ready. Right now i am 34 and about to begin a my first year of college. My grandfather told there would be a point when I “knew” it was time and i believe the time is now. I cant seem to locate a lodge near me using your website. What my question is, is will it matter that I am at a starting over point in my life? I had a career i was happy with and loved but is no longer an option for me so im starting over and i dont want this to be an issue with membership.  Thank You very much,  John

That you are starting over shouldn’t be a problem so long as you can support yourself and pay your dues.

Where do you live and we can help you more for finding a nearby lodge.

Then you sound good to go, if that is the case.

Check out the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin to find a lodge near you:

http://www.wisc-freemasonry.org/

Contact that lodge and ask to visit and tell them you are interested in joining.  Soon you’ll be on your way.

John,

I’ll save you the trouble of looking up lodges. There is a lodge in Fond du Lac.

Fond du Lac Lodge #26
500 W. Arnd St.
Fond du Lac 54935

It meets on the 1st & 3rd Thurs. at 7:00 pm monthly, except in July and August. (Like most lodges, no meetings in Jul & Aug.)

email address is ldkifer@charter.net

You could always go by the lodge hall and see if anyone happens to be around (someone may be there even though the lodge is closed for the summer) which would allow you to meet one or more of the members. By all means send an email and explain what you explained here.  You should have no problem and the brothers will be glad to see or hear from you.  Let us know how it goes.

Hello all!

I am interested in becoming a Freemason. Also as John stated, my Grandfather and Father are Freemason’s. I havent really asked them much about it. They always told me I would look for it when I was ready. I’m orginally from Fort Wayne, IN, but I have been enlisted in US Army for 8 years. Returning home will not be likely as I love the world. How would I find more information on learning more about Freemason’s and also how the whole being a soldier moving around will effect this decision?

The US Army and Freemasonry have a long and splendid history together. George Washington was a Mason, as well as Douglas MacArthur, George Patton, and many NCOs and Officers. I will be glad to tell you more. There are lodges on (or near) many Army posts. I will send you a link to a discussion board for military Freemasons.

My name is Kim Lowe, from Las Vegas,NV. I would like more information on how to become a member of the FM. When Googled the lodges in Las Vegas, they are only all men’s groups. I understand that there are free masons groups for both genders and cultures. Does any exist in Nevada besides the all men’s groups.
I dont know anyone who is a member in Las Vegas and how to proceed to become a member of the free masons. The other thing is that I am a transgender person and I don’t know how I should pursue the membership process. If you can, could you please help me guide me to the right direction? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yours kindly,

Kim Lowe

Hello Kim.

The simple answer is that as a woman, you can not become a Regular Freemason.  Freemasonry is a men’s fraternal organization, just as there are women only groups (Red Hats for example), Freemasonry by tradition has always been for Men only.

You may have heard of “Masonic” groups that allow women, such as co-masonry.  Just know that while similar in concept, these groups are not recognized by the international standard to which Masonry is accepted.  Therefore, members of this and other clandestine groups would not be recognized as Masons in most lodges in the world.

There are organizations that are associated with Freemasonry that allow women, such as Eastern Star, but these require that you be related to a Mason to join.

As to the issue of you being transgender, I’m not exactly sure how to approach it except to say that if you are living as a woman, then you have chosen to forfeight all rights to Masonic membership by declaring yourself a woman.  I don’t know of any regular lodges that would view it differently, but I may be wrong.

Best of luck to you.
