What are they, and what exactly is there relationship to Blue Lodge Masonry?

Thank you very much for your question.  I don’t know what “Dark Lodges” are and I can assure you they do not have any relationship to Freemasonry.  What you might be thinking of is the reference to lodges that have “gone dark.” What we mean when we say this, is that the lodge is not meeting.  For instance, most lodges in Massachusetts do not meet during the months of July and August.  Most of our lodge building are not air conditioned and it is a popular time of the year to take vacations.  Therefore, many lodges have chosen not to meet for those two months.  During that period we refer to those lodges as having “gone dark.” Similarly, the lodges on Cape Cod tend to “go dark” in January and February, and meet throughout the summer.  I hope this helps.
